Swimming Fun

Becca started swimming classes on Tuesday. Crawfordsville High School offers classes for 6mo. - 3 year old kids and I thought it would be fun to sign her up. She loves bath time and loves water in general so I was hopeful that she would enjoy the swimming pool! There are only 4 classes that are 30 minutes in length each time.
Here is a picture of us getting ready to go to the pool. Sunglasses came with her Elmo swimmers diapers and she just loves them as you can see here!

Here is a picture of us at the pool. As soon as we got in the water Becca squealed with joy and started splashing around. I almost wished I had a pair of goggles so that I could see! :) The instructors started off by singing "The Wheels On The Bus" (one of Becca's favorite songs) and we moved the kids around to the music to try and get them used to the water and to kick.

Again, Becca loved being moved back and forth through the water. They tried to get her to blow bubbles in the water, but she wasn't sure about that. Some of the other babies were used to doing it in the bathtub so they did really well in the pool with this. We also learned how to float and how to get them to dive into the water and then roll on their backs. Becca just liked diving off of the side into my arms. The instructors wanted us to dunk them under water (they taught us how to do it without getting water up their noses), but I was a little hesitant to do this. I just wanted Becca to enjoy the time first and ease her into the other stuff. We also did the Hokey Pokey. It was a lot of fun and great bonding time. Joe sat on the sideline and videotaped so I will post a short clip hopefully soon! :)

15 Months

Becca had her 15 month check-up today. She was 20 pounds and 31 1/4 inches long. The doctor said she was a little concerned that her weight had only gone up a pound and to add butter to everything she eats. That kind of sounds gross, but her point was to add some good fats to her diet. Even though she didn't gain much weight, I can tell a difference in her since her year check-up. She seems heavier to me! We still have a problem keeping her pants up in some of her clothes, but now that the weather is warmer dresses will be nice. The doctor said she was amazed at how much she talks and at some of the words she was saying. She said that some of them were pretty advanced for a 15 month old. I told her that Becca talks our ear off all the time.
She was pretty healthy except for a small ear infection that popped up. She hadn't really had the usual symptoms except she had really been pulling on her left ear the past couple of days and woke up from a nap screaming and wouldn't stop for 30 minutes, which isn't like her. Overall, she is a vivacious, happy, talkative, exploring 15 month old!

Here are some pictures over the past couple of weeks. School has been keeping us so busy and the month of May just seems to be busier. I will be glad when it is summer and we will have a chance to be at home more and enjoy our family time together.

Becca has started to really notice her baby dolls and actually that is probably one of her clearest words. She takes them for rides in the stroller and loves on them. She also has been a "helper" by latching on to the vacuum when I sweep and getting the dustpan and broom out to help mommy clean up the cheerios on the floor. She also like to take a washcloth and wipe things off. So sweet!

Here is our picture of a fashion dilemma...not too bad, but when I came home from teaching lessons on Saturday, Becca was wearing her pink jelly shoes with purple striped socks and teal pants. Joe said this is what she wanted to wear so that is what he put on her! :)

Becca has been climbing on everything! She decided she wanted to get a closer look at the news one night and pulled her bus up to the TV and climbed on it. Her increasingly risky climbing behavior makes for a nervous mommy!

Here is a picture of Becca when she went to Mamaw and Papaw Allen's house. They got her a monkey with cymbals that she can push around. She absolutely loves it. Especially on our wood floors. She gets going too fast at times though! I didn't get as many pictures of her at their house...more video so I will have to upload the video this weekend! She had a lot of fun playing outside and swinging on the swing!

Children's Museum

Becca and I ventured once again to Indianapolis today to go to the Children's Museum. She is still too young for parts of the museum, but many of our friends have told me that she would love Playscapes because it is specifically designed for children under 5. I tried to get to the Museum when it opened, but ended up being a half hour late. No big deal, except for the fact that the museum was super crowded today. I think everyone decided to go...it might have had something to do with the weather being cold and yucky. However, we only had to wait in line 15 minutes for tickets. I decided the best option would be to go directly to playscapes to see how she would do. We were fortunate to get right in (by the time we left there was a long line to get in). Becca absolutely loved it there and didn't want to leave, but she was getting grumpy because her tummy was hungry and it was also close to nap time. She loved being able to play in the water and experience new things.

She didn't really care for the sand box...not sure why. She also loved the freedom to run around and climb on things. We only had 2 falls and major cries, but then she was fine and wanted to play more.

The Children's Museum is a great place to go. We even went to the Bob the Builder special exhibit. She has no idea who Bob the Builder is, but the exhibit was very interactive. She loved playing with the legos and trying to help build a garden. She had a hard time understanding though that she just couldn't take the carrot and run around like a crazy girl to another part of the room! :)

After the Children's Museum we went to Babies R' Us to pick up a few items. I made the mistake of going down the Elmo aisle. Becca loves Elmo (as I think I stated before). She kept saying melmo, melmo. She played with one Elmo toy while I did my shopping. I was able to get out of the store without an Elmo purchase, but while we were at the register she kept saying Melmo, melmo. I felt so bad! :) She wanted an Elmo...it didn't matter that she has many Elmo books, etc. at home. I stood strong though and didn't purchase one, but that little voice saying melmo has stuck with me and makes me want to go get her one....even though I'm sure she has long forgotten the melmos in the store! :)

Zoo fun

This is how we started our day at the zoo! All smiles! :)
Joe and I are on Spring break this week!!! Yea!!!! The weather has been beautiful (except for today). We wanted to do some fun stuff and take Becca to some places she has not been before. Our schedule are so busy during the school year that we tend to stay home on the weekends or are busy with band stuff so a break is nice and much needed.

Tuesday was just beautiful and a great day to go to the zoo. (Plus the 1st Tuesday of every month is half price admission-an added bonus). So off we headed to the Indianapolis Zoo, early in the morning hoping to beat a lot of the crowd. We weren't sure if Becca would enjoy the zoo or not. She is still a little young and we weren't sure if her attention span would handle looking at the animals. However, she loved it!!! It was so much fun watching her experience seeing new things. Joe and I got the biggest kick out of her reactions. She of course loved the monkeys. She "talked" to them by saying "ooo ooo ahh ahh." :)

She also loved the sea otters because she was able to stand right up to the glass and watch them swim by. Below is the video of her reaction. We also included the part where she was watching the dolphins. Of course you were supposed to watch them quietly....but that wasn't the case with Becca. I think she was more excited that she wasn't in her stroller than watching the dolphins!

She has always loved her animal books and I'm so glad that she loved the zoo. She was a trooper and lasted most of the morning. After we ate a picnic lunch she ended up falling asleep in the stroller. Joe and I continued through part of the zoo, but it just wasn't as much fun without her being awake. As we approached the final stop on the tour she woke up from her nap and was able to see the ocean animals. It was a fun day with beautiful weather!!

Easter

I know I'm a few days late, but I wanted to post some Easter pictures because Becca was just too cute. We had a great church service on Easter Sunday. I miss spending time with family though. It has been awhile, but I miss going to my Grandma's and spending time with family. I remember how we used to hunt for eggs and it was just a fun day. These memories made me thankful for all of our family members. We don't get to see everyone very often, but I thank the Lord every day for each and every one of them and pray for them often. I also am so grateful for Jesus's sacrifice on the cross and that He has risen! How can we live this life without Him? I know there are days that He gives me the strength to get through. He is our source, comfort, strength, and hope.
On the lighter side....

Becca didn't even notice her Easter basket when she woke up. We pointed it out to her and she loved the basket more than the contents in it! We have to thank Mamaw Allen for this. Last year she got Becca an Elmo easter basket that I saved and reused this year. Becca loves Elmo and she thought it was funny that Elmo had Bunny ears. Joe and I love hearing her say Elmo (which sounds like melmo). Joe and I want to focus on the real reason we celebrate Easter with Becca, but also will enjoy the egg hunts, candy, and much more!

Stacking blocks

I know the past two days I have posted a lot, but I'm trying to catch up from not posting anything the past two weeks. So much changes everyday with Becca that it is hard to keep up with everything! Aunt Leslie and Uncle Nate gave Becca blocks for Christmas that she is just now starting to love. Before she just threw them around the room or watched me stack them while she knocked them down. Now she will sit and try to stack the different blocks and see how high she can get them (with assistance of course). It is fun to see her sit and concentrate. I love watching how she grabs a block, arranges it in her hands just so and then figures out how to put it on top of the other block.

Not all smiles

For those of you who mainly see Becca smile ALL of the time...some have asked if she ever stops. Here is a picture to answer your questions! She is a really happy baby and definitely a people person. Everywhere we go she talks with anyone who talks to her. She just has a sweet happy demeanor. However, as with any child...she does have her moments and this picture shows one of those moments this past Saturday. She was so tired and grumpy all day. So fun!!!

Hats

Normally Becca does not like to wear anything on her head wether it be a bow, headband or a hat. However, she found a birthday crown that they made at daycare with Cheryl over Christmas. Of course she was too little at the time and wasn't too interested in wearing the birthday hat to celebrate Jesus. I have been in the process of storing her things, but hadn't gotten to that. So she thought it was hilarious to run around the house with the birthday crown on her head. She giggled the entire time and got really mad when it fell off. It was a little small because her head has grown in the past few months! :)

Boxes

Becca has been climbing on everything lately. So Joe decided to get out a box and teach her how to go through an "obstacle" course. At first she looked at him like he was crazy. So he threw a toy in the box and told her to go get it. We had to show her a couple of times and then she found that she loved going through the box to the other side and had to repeat this many times! She also has enjoyed climbing over pillows and throwing herself down on them. If Joe is sitting on the couch she loves to sit with him, or shall we say bounce and run around on the couch. She is very active. Today she tried to climb on top of her music activity table. I think we need to get the girl a jungle gym!!! :)
